A new Treatment Scandal at Spire Parkway Hospital Solihull
29 January 2020
Have you had surgery under the care of Habib Rahman and been recalled?
This weekend it was reported that more than 200 patients have had unnecessary operations under the care of Orthopaedic Surgeon Habib Rahman, at Spire Parkway Hospital Solihull, and have been recalled for checks to review the care provided.
It is believed that all patients affected have been written to by Spire Parkway Hospital Solihull.
We are a little in the dark at this stage as to what exactly the unnecessary operations have been, but indications are that these are likely to have been shoulder and upper limb surgeries. It is believed that he may have been proceeding to surgery when conservative outpatient care may have been more suitable.
The unnecessary treatments would appear to be both private treatment and NHS waiting list initiative referrals. This means that there may well have been on some occasions a cost to the NHS for the unnecessary treatment.
It is reported that this does not affect his NHS patients treated in NHS Hospitals and he is allowed to continue working in the NHS with restrictions.
It is perhaps concerning that this has been allowed to occur again at this hospital which was where the disgraced breast surgeon Ian Paterson also practiced from. In respect of Mr Paterson it has been confirmed that the Birmingham Coroners Service now are looking at whether patients may have passed away due to his advice.
