Are you being bullied?
04 May 2018
Each and everybody within the working population, should look forward to going into work. Although every job has its moments both positive and negative, overall it should be something we are happy within, after all we do tend to spend the majority of our days at work. So when there is something making you feeling uncomfortable within that environment, going into work can seem to be a daunting experience.
All employees should be treated with dignity and respect in the workplace, and nobody should have to tolerate bullying, or harassment of any form. Although for an outsider, it may be viewed as easily corrected practice, for those suffering abuse within the workplace, it can leave us confused and wondering what to do. Who to turn to, without being labelled as a victim. In these circumstances when you feel you are alone, don’t worry, speak to a member of our friendly team, and let us remind you that you are not alone.
Bullying and Harassment are terms that on the face of it are viewed as the same by many. Overall harassment in professional terms can be defined as, unwanted conduct, affecting the dignity of men and women in the workplace. It can be based on many factors such as, age, sex, race, disability, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or even any personal characteristic of an individual.
Bullying, can be defined as, offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour. Even abuse of power, to humiliate or injure is viewed as bullying behaviour.
Both bullying and harassment can be carried out in a variety of forms, may it be an individual to individual basis, and a group isolating a colleague, and causing them discomfort. This type of behaviour is not natural, and nobody within a work environment should be facing it.
